Nash completed his Canadian Championship on Sunday October 31, at the Lower Mainland Dog Fanciers Shows in Abbotsford BC, expertly presented by Shea Skinner to Judge Paul Stanton.

Stanton, an F.C.I. All Breeds judge from Sweden later awarded Nash a 4th place in the herding group.

With over 1,000 entries in conformation alone, the LMDF shows are billed as Canada's Largest Dog Show, bringing judges from around the world.

Nash also earned his CKC Rally Novice title with 2-First Place perfect scores and 1-Second Place score of 99.

Nash completed his Companion Dog title at the Nisqually Kennel Club shows with a score of 194-1/2 under judge Mary Jane Shervais on July 18. He had just earned his second leg at the Bell Vernon shows.

On March 7 & 8, we attended a clinic on C-course herding, otherwise known as "tending" style. Although Nash had both AKC-PT and AHBA-JHD titles at the time of the clinic, this was his first exposure to this type of herding. Tending is a style of herding originating in Europe where the dog works as a "moving fence" to guide a flock of 20 or more sheep down roads, past cars, and over bridges to an open field, or "graze" where the dog contains the sheep while they eat. Briards usually excel at Tending. Nash was no exception.
Barbara Davenport, who has been training Nash and I in other styles of herding remarked:"Clearly we have been trying to put a square peg in a round hole". "I have my leash on and we're headed to the pens. Oh boy, oh boy!!! I get to push about 50 sheep down the alley to the pens which is a lot of fun. But then I have to wait for what seems like forEVER while the humans try to sort the sheep by collar and paint color. Then I get to help Gus the Kelpie drive about half the sheep to the back field. They have me on leash behind Gus because they say Gus doesn't have enough power."

"We get to do pen work for the HTAD2. Don't really know what HTAD2 is. Sounds like a cross between attention deficit and a robot from Star Wars. But the pen work is good. The object of this game is to get all five sheep out of the pen without driving them over the fence or into the post. Mostly I have to concentrate on slowing down or I have to lie down every 2 seconds...."

" Finally I get to work the Junior Herd Dog test. There are only 2 runs today. Here I have to move groups of 3 sheep out of the pens, slowly, then move them across the round pen to the 100' arena, slowly. When the run is done we pick the sheep up in the round pen and put them back in the smaller pens. Moslty the sheep will do this last part themselves but I'm there to make sure."

"I get to put the sheep out in the lower pasture. Here I move the groups of 3 out of the small pens thru the 50' round pen and into the pasture, yup, you guessed it - slowly."

On Friday October 31, AKC-Ch Deja Vu Back Seat Driver RN, PT JHD-s, CGC "Nash" went Winners Dog against Ne Orageux Assiniboine Admirer "Rio" and then took Breed over the Special CKC-Ch. Aladax's Sorcerer CDX AGNCH "Dante" showing to Dany Canino. On Saturday Nash repeated his performance showing to Christina Hubbell. The Lower Mainland Dog Fanciers of BC in Abbotsford Canada is billed as Canada's Largest Dog Show. We are thrilled to announce our new Champion Deja Vu Back Seat Driver, RN, PT, CGC, JHD-s. Beautifully presented to Judge Betty Jo Patrick by Mike Stone, Nash finished at the Sacramento Show on Sunday going Winners Dog for a 3-pt major. Sunday's win followed winning the Northern California Briard Club Specialty on Friday under Judge Edeltraud Laurin, by going over the Specials for a 4-pt major and taking Breed again on Saturday under Judge Jeanne Zuver for a 4 pt major.

Nash Qualifies for 2 Rally Advanced Legs!

Deja Vu Back Seat Driver, CGC, RN, PT, JHD-s earned two legs toward his Rally Advanced (RA) obedience title at the Gig Harbor Kennel Club Trials in Shelton WA, September 20 & 21, 2008 under judges Cynthia A. Rustad & Philip D. Rustad. The RA course is performed entirely off leash. The outdoor 40' x 50' course on both days contained 14 stations which was tight.

On Saturday, the second station was a 16" high jump followed by a slow pace heel at the third station. Nash took the jump and landed at the third station where he had to immediately slow down. On Sunday, the course contained a 90° halt, pivot-right, halt, a 90° halt, pivot-left, halt and a 180° halt, pivot-right, halt. Suffice it to say that Phil Rustad is a stickler for footwork. Despite this, Nash took 4th place with a score or 90 out of 100, only 6 points below the 1st place dog! Nash's marked improvement on Sunday is attributed to a workout with the woolies on Saturday afternoon.

Judge Philip Rustad remarked: "He is a fun dog." We couldn't agree more!

Nash Does It Again!

Déjà Vu Back Seat Driver, CGC, RN, PT, JHD-s took Best of Breed both days of the Portland Kennel Club Shows.

Nash was handled by fellow Briarder, Mark Strever and shown to Judge Fiona Fearon Zammit of Australia on Saturday, July 19.

On Sunday, July 20, Nash was shown to Judge Donald M. Booxbaum by all-breed professional handler Dixie Rae (above left and below).
Nash now has 6 points toward his championship.

Nash Takes B.O.B. at Bell Vernon Shows!

Déjà Vu Back Seat Driver, CGC, RN, PT, JHD-s took Best of Breed both days of the Bell Vernon Kennel Club Shows.

Nash was handled by Dixie Rae and shown to Dr. Carol White Moser on Saturday, June 28th (top) and John T. Connolly on Sunday, June 29th (bottom).

Nash made the cut in the Herding Group on Sunday (middle).

Nash Earns His 1st AKC Herding Title!

Nash earned his AKC PT (Pre-Trial Tested) title on sheep over Memorial weekend at PackLeader Farm. Expertly handled by Barbara Davenport on Saturday and Sunday, under Judges Lynn Leach and Ron Fischer, Nash qualified for the two legs required to earn the PT title. For extra measure, he was owner-handled (in photos above) on Monday, May 26, again qualifying under Judge Terry Workman. Terry is currently training a Briard at his facility in Linclon Nebraska, so his comment of "very nice dog" was especially appreciated. To qualify, Nash has to demonstrate a stay at the begining of the run, controlled passage of stock, clear four gates, change direction, one stop on course, stop while handler opens the gate and re-pen at the end of the run. Nash Earns JHD Title at 15 Months!

Nash easily qualifies for two legs and earns his AHBA Junior Herd Dog (JHD) title, April 19,2008. Expertly handled by Barbara Davebport of Packleader Farm and evaluated by judges Ron Fischer and Janie Naysinger, Nash earns the best possible remark on each element with judges comments of "Nice Job" and "Wonderful!" In order to earn the JHD title, Nash moved sheep past 3 obstacles and was evaluated on "pause", "collect and control", "movement through course", "reliable stop" and "repen".
